Pre-Budget Survey
Please take our pre-budget survey. This survey will close March 22, 2021.
Background
- Central Saanich’s annual budget is ~$30 million.
- Half of your property tax bill is collected for other regional agencies, such as the library, CRD and BC Transit. The other half funds local infrastructure, services and operations.
- We heard during the 2019 Citizen Survey that respondents want the District to focus on roads and road safety. They also told us that providing more of the following services would make the District more livable: transportation infrastructure (including sidewalks and bike lanes), local businesses, community events and public transit.
- In previous decades new infrastructure was installed and long-term cost to maintain/replace it was not incorporated into future budgets—we’re now focused on sustainability and building up funds for now and in the future. For more information, please see our Sustainable Asset Management Plan.
- The District has one of the lowest business tax rates in the region.
- Council is focused on the following priorities for 2020-2022:
- Invest in Road Safety, Transit and Safe, Accessible Active Transportation (An Active Transportation Plan is expected to be adopted in 2021 along with a financial strategy)
- Invest in Climate Action and a Healthy Environment
- Focus on Strong Local Economy and Support Agriculture
- Manage Responsible Growth
