In mid-2019, Panorama reached out to the Central Saanich community for feedback on recreation programs and services in the District. The consultation included outreach to local groups and students, and a public survey completed with more than 400 responses.

Many comments were related to expanding programs and recreation facilities and infrastructure; most noted was the desire for a satellite recreation facility within the District of Central Saanich, with a weight room and multi-purpose space.

Of the comments provided regarding programs and services, most commonly mentioned was the desire for gymnastics for children. Expansion of lunchtime and evening drop-in fitness offerings, pickleball, along with art and more afterschool programming for school age children followed.

Top programs and services participants want to see more of:

    1. Drop-In Sports (incl. Badminton, Basketball, Pickleball, Volleyballl)

    2. Mind & Body (Yoga, Pilates, Tai Chi, etc.)

    3. Fitness Classes

    4. Outdoor Recreation & Nature Programs

    5. Arts

    6. Workshops & Education

    7. Weight Room

    8. Music & Dance

    9. Out of School Care

    10. Day Camps

The community feedback will help inform Panorama Recreation as it looks to the future. There will be further opportunity to explore the direction for Central Saanich during the Peninsula Recreation Commission’s Five-Year Strategic Plan, which begins in 2021.
