DBW asked about 4 years agoThere are plans to improve active transportation in the proximity of Keating Elementary School. The District has applied for a Provincial grant to fund the proposed improvements. At this time, the Province has not made a decision on the District’s application.

Share Why is there never anything done on Central saanich roads like sidewalks considering it is 1-busy rd even without the trucks etc that use road as shortcut which is supposely prohibited 2-parking allowed on Rd so pedestrians or cyclists cannot see esp in front of central saanich rd Country Park where that deadly accident was a few years ago .Same cars parked there everyday. This street has lots of pedestrians as there is no bus that comes down this rd so everyone that use the bus has to walk on road to east saanich or Mt Newton . Very unsafe for all walkers ! on Facebook Share Why is there never anything done on Central saanich roads like sidewalks considering it is 1-busy rd even without the trucks etc that use road as shortcut which is supposely prohibited 2-parking allowed on Rd so pedestrians or cyclists cannot see esp in front of central saanich rd Country Park where that deadly accident was a few years ago .Same cars parked there everyday. Irene asked about 4 years agoThank you for taking the time to submit your question. The long list of projects was assessed based on safety, projected use by residents, and much more. Given the amount of projects requested, the District is not able to complete them all, and what is presented in the draft were the projects that ranked highest on the assessment criteria.

Peter asked about 4 years agoHello, There is not an approved seniors housing complex at this time; you may be thinking of an application that has not been considered by Council yet. There is not a plan to add a sidewalk down West Saanich. The projects included in the plans were all selected after a comprehensive analysis of many criteria.

DBW asked about 4 years agoHello, Thank you for raising this concern. The draft document is based on current provincial design standards. While no floating bus stops are identified as projects in the plan, we would look to the latest best practices and the provincial standard.

Share With the large number of equine boarding facilities in Central Saanich and opportunities for agro-tourism, I'm surprised that more research, discussion and requirements about opportunities for bridleway was not covered in the draft report. As a primarily rural and agricultural area, to me this would be a no brainer and shows the lack of foresight. Personally, I don't have any interest in horses, but I'm well aware of the need. Can you explain the reason that this wasn't more thoroughly covered in the research? on Facebook Share With the large number of equine boarding facilities in Central Saanich and opportunities for agro-tourism, I'm surprised that more research, discussion and requirements about opportunities for bridleway was not covered in the draft report. Kws asked about 4 years agoThe long list of priorities was extensive; priority projects were selected based on a detailed analysis that looked at the following factors:
• Level of support in policies, plans and community engagement
• Anticipated use (land use, data)
• Improving safety/addressing safety concerns
• Helps build connected routes/addresses gaps
• Addresses a known accessibly issue
• Partnership opportunities
• Represents good overall value
Horseback riding facilities were not within the scope of this project; however equestrian uses will be considered on any multi-use pathways. Multi-use pathways are included in the Draft plan, mostly in the long-term network design, but for the short term there is a multi-use path proposed for Mt Newton Cross Road.

Perry Freisinger asked over 4 years agoThis section was identified as a key priority for residents and it will be included in the draft plan, which will be available for public comment this winter. This section of Wallace Drive is scheduled to be reconstructed as part of the Brentwood Bay sewer replacement project, which is subject to grant funding due to the high costs. The scope of work includes reconfiguration of the roadway to include bike lanes.
